Hi Andreas -
IIRC = "If I recall correctly". That means, "I wasn't certain about that".
So you made me go look. Yes, the Norcal 40 has AGC. I also see notes that
its characteristics have been changed over time to make it a bit more
aggressive.
Thanks for questioning my comment. I copied the reflector on this reply
because that's the advantage of "talking" in a group. Misconceptions and
errors are picked up quickly.
So whether one is using the AGC depends upon whether they use the RF gain
control. In that way the K2 is similar. If the RF gain is turned down, the
AGC action is reduced proportionately. That's how I often use the K2.
I enjoy having AGC for casual listening. (Indeed that's why RCA adopted it
and made it popular - to make tuning the early "Radiola" AM broadcast sets
easier without loud blasts of sound in the living room.)
But I do find that for communications use, AGC action is more tiring for me
than no AGC.
While we're on the subject, I should point out that the K3 has a highly
operator-configurable AGC characteristic to meet personal needs. I haven't
had the time to really explore them, but finding the right combination of
settings might encourage me to use AGC more often, Hi!

Ron,
are you sure about this?

I am pretty sure my Norcal 40 has one :-)
