Not that it really matters, I had the inrad 600 cycle filter in the 1 khz slot.  Thats why I had a 600 cycle filter.  I have now sold the Orion II, and use the Orion at one location and the K3  at another location.  I would not hesitate to use any of the three rigs in any contest.  They are all excellent. 
 
The orion is bigger, but not necessarily more user friendly.   The K3 is every inch as good.   Both are easy to train the fingers and become second nature.  
 
On being convenient to operate, I give a slight edge to the K3 even with it's small face.
 
Current software support and future improvements - no comparison, K3 wins hands down.

For the record, that's incorrect.  Orion II has an optional 300 Hz
filter.  I also had an Orion and would rate the RF performance very
similar.  

The ergonomics, frequency of firmware updates, modularity (i.e. I'm
not forced to pay for FM, General Coverage, AM, etc) and many
additional features (e.g. True Diversity, a *GOOD* Sub RX, DUAL PB,
excellent bandscope via LP-PAN, computerless digital, etc) make the K3
a clear choice IMHO.  The amazing support of Elecraft also puts the K3
in a class all by itself.
