As a programmer, my initial thought was of envy: there are some interesting
possibilities with that. Then I read your post again, and saw mention of
"Icom drivers." Presumably these are Windows-only, and this feature will
become completely obsolete in ten years time when the version of Windows at
that time doesn't support this driver and Icom has no interest in writing a
new one.

If they had made it an Ethernet port then it really would have been
interesting.
