Hi Paul,
I'm not sure that I really have an answer to your question other than to
raise the possibility that you might not actually have an issue with the
output power of your KX1. How are you measuring the output power? I have
found that the KX1's own display of output power is very dependent on the
antenna match. If the SWR is even a little bit higher than 1:1 the bar
graph will not give you an accurate reading. Now if you are measuring your
output power with an external meter and into a good dummy load then you do
have an issue to work on. If that is the case I'm afraid that I don't have
the expertise to help you. I know that the spread of the turns on some of
the torroids in the KX1 can impact the output power. There have been
postings on this that you should be able to find in the archives. Hopefully
someone with more knowledge on this will be able to give you some
assistance. With 13.7 volts my KX1 outputs 3-4 watts into a dummy load
(somewhat depends on the band), and with 12 volts its 2-3 watts. Good luck.
