Gary,
It would be nice if it were mojo. I try not to tell anyone I am running 10
watts unless they ask.
I listen to the QRO operators on 75 in the evening and some seem to think
that the difference between 100 watts and 500 watts is huge. It's just a
little over 6 db, which is around or slightly above 1 S unit depending on
the receiver. Going up to 1kw is only another 3 db which is less than
another S unit. All that electricity and cost to operate, when a little
antenna improvement and good band conditions mean so much more.
(All that said, I will still buy a KPA800 when they get them produced, just
to satisfy those who think running that level of power is everything to
getting out> ! :-) With mojo I wouldn't need 100W which I will be running
once I finish up the second K2 and get my K#.)

I run 5 to 10 watts on my K2 all the time. I get a lot of comments about
the
signal and that they can't believe I'm only running ten watts. It happened
again just last night on CW. In fact, I checked into the Elecraft SSB net
on
Monday night and the control operator couldn't believe I was only running
ten
watts. There were one or two others running ten watts also. I think there
is
more to the mojo than the other guy having a big antenna with a huge amount
of
gain. I only run a vertical or a magnetic loop and I'm still able to work
DX.
Maybe not as much as the guy with a zillion watts and a high gain antenna
farm. Again, it's the mojo which is a great equalizer. :-)
