As far as EMC is concerned CE markings don't really seem to help, but in other
areas such as safety or use of toxic materials, one would hope that they do. The
real problem is enforcement of the required standards, because the CE marking is
self-certification by the producer/importer and not the result of independent
(and ongoing) testing.
