The K2 is far smaller, 50% lighter, and has lower current drain, thus 
it's ideal for limited space/camping/backpacking operations. With fewer 
controls to learn, it's an ideal first HF radio, especially in the QRP 
configuration.

It's also about half the price (base model).

Finally, it's the only all-band HF transceiver offered as a "full" kit 
(i.e., you get to do some soldering). This is one reason for the lower 
cost. But it also makes for a great building/learning experience -- 
according to our 6000+ K2 customers!
