Stephen,

Use the dark gray core to wind T1 - it should be the proper core.

Check again for a dark gray core that is a bit smaller 0.37 inches diameter.
If you cannot locate it, ask for one from Elecraft for use at RFC2.  The red
core is normal for powdered iron cores and likely is a T50-2.  It is not
suitable for use as an RF Choke, you would have to wind a LOT of turns on it
to obtain the correct inductance.
