[Elecraft] transmit and reciever alignment

Roland,

It is most likely a filter alignment problem, but I will reserve final
judgement until you answer some questions about how you are operating.

Did you do your filter alignment with Spectrogram? If not, the visual
display of the filter passbands makes alignment a snap, but besides, if you
just set them 'by ear', it is difficult to find the filter center, so you
may be off quite a bit.

Second, were you listening with any filter other than FL1? If the filters
are aligned, this is not a problem, but if not aligned, that could be
explaination of your problem.

Try using FL1 for both transmit and receive and see if your listen frequency
is not also your transmit frequency - if it is not, then you have something
other than a filter alignment problem. Don't forget to take into account
the fact that the K2 display is offset on receive by the amount of your set
sidetone pitch, so the frequency on the K2 display should be your transmit
frequency. For this reason, it is important to listen to a signal at the
same audio pitch as your sidetone pitch. The K2 will indicate the carrier
frequency of the signal you are listening to provided you are properly tuned
to zero-beat (same pitch as your sidetone).

Also, make certain that you have all filters for CW on the same sideband -
the BFO frequencies should be somewhat close to those shown in the chart on
page 89 of the K2 manual. If you find yours way off, set then initially to
the values in the manual and then finish up the alignment with Spetrogram.

For further info on the CAL FIL procedure, see my website article on K2 Dial
Calibration at http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com - in addition to the info I have
provided, I also have links to further info and Tom Hammond's Spectrogram
writeups in the article.
