I am pleased as punch that Wayne Burdick has done it again. He's managed to
stuff all of the 80 meter band and more into that tiny KX1 box! I'll be
adding the KXB3080 module to my KX1 as soon as the folks at Elecraft will
let me.

Wayne's timing couldn't be better. This spring and summer I will be hiking
the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) from the Mexican border to the
nearest road north of the US-Canada border. With 80 m capability in my KX1,
I'll be able to check into 80 m CW and 75 m LSB nets any night, relaying
information about my status and handling necessary logistics for this
thru-hike. In an emergency, it is unlikely that I won't be able to find
somebody to respond with 80, 40, 30 and 20 meter full-band capability.  I
remember vividly the time when I was able to pass an emergency message on
the 20 meter phone band using a QRP CW rig when I was seriously hypothermic.
  That rig was huge by today's standards. The KX1 won't just fit inside my
backpack. If I'm not careful, I might lose it in there!

Now I'm going to work on an antenna which I can use on all four bands which
is very lightweight. Any suggestion would be most welcome.

72,
Bruce Prior N7RR
