OK, so the rhombic sounds like a good idea for the club house, where we
have a big park to put up temporary antennas.  I plugged some figures
into an antenna program I had lying around, and came up with a design
for a rhombic:

 

Length per side 10.970km

Height 478m

 

This way it would cover a fair part of the suburb, but at least the
aircraft would be able to get in underneath it!

 

Maybe a tribander beam then .
