Hi All,

I've just completed my new K2 and all seems to be going well !!

Total construction time was 7 days, although I did have a few late nights.

Problems encountered were.

1. Wrong Cap inserted on the control board
2. Forgot to solder 1 pin on U6 on the control board
3. Left out C163 on RF Board
4. Wound RFC11 on the wrong torroid
5. Trying to align receiver using headphones with a 'iffy' 3.5mm stereo plug

Most of these were easily detected and fixed through having an accurate inventory
of bits and pieces, and being able to search the parts placement using the PDF
version of the manual

I still need to do a full alignment as there has been a distinct lack of signals on the
bands, buthoping the contest at the weekend will provide plenty to align the
receiver correctly. Unfortuntaly the only equipment I have that can be used to
inject a signal is my KX1.

The only thing I have noticed is that my current drain is slightly higher than that
recommended in the manual. On receive I have 0.50A (all bands) according to the
inbuily meter. On TX with the PWR set to 10W, I have about 2.5A on all bands,
with 30M being about 2.8A. Is this a problem. The manual says that I should have
about 2A with 10W TX. I've had to set the HI CUR thrreshold to 3A to stop getting
the Hi Cur message.

I'll have a play on this over the weekend and then tackle the SSB and 160M
modules next week.

Regards

David, VK2NU
