[Elecraft] K1 on 80 meter 300 KHZ ?

Giuliano, I0cg addresses this in his SSB mods for the K1. See his
site:

I believe he parallels a 68pf NPO cap with the 120pf C2 to get a
250khz tuning range. This prolly makes cw tuning a bit sensitive, but it
is a way to increase the range w/out sacrificing a band. I don't recall
if RIT and XIT can both be turned on at the same time in the K1, but if
you remove or otherwise disable the 2n7000 that shorts across the RIT pot,
you could use it as a general purpose "fine tune", and use the LED drive
to control a back light :).

Similar to your own suggestion, you could also use a four band board
to get two pairs of 150khz sets, but then you'll likely need to find
additional crystals for the required offsets.

A third possibility would be to modify the VFO and/or pot circuitry
to be externally switchable into two ranges. I seem to recall that this
is awkward, but I don't have the schematic in front of me.
