[Elecraft] Kixie's really good in bed!

I was tired, there were thunder boomers moving
through, and while reading Tom Sawyer to my children
("Like it? Well I don't see why I oughtn't to like
it. Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence
every day?") I got the idea of trying out some
mattress-portable with an indoor aerial, or antler, as
it's known in some circles.
So after the little ones were all stowed in their
berths, and I'd seen Nate through his nightly midnight
snack, I retrieved the Kixiebag from the mobile unit
and retreated upstairs to the boudoir. The 24' silky
wire was deployed atop two window treatments and a
closet door, and the 33' ground was snaked around some
furniture and heaps of small, clean yet unmatchable
socks on the floor.
In went the 'buds and the cunning little paddles
and on went Kixie, who tuned the wire to 1.3:1, which
seemed pretty nice. The sweet strains of CW were
heard, but my nearly a watt and a half seemed to not
be able to get much beyond the cicada-filled garden.
Time to crank up the linear. Out came the 8-AA
holder and some extra lithiums. The time for fooling
around had passed! Now I was generating almost three
whats of continuous waves. I worked P4/LY2TA, "5NN"
both ways <g>, and then worked Art, KZ5D, in LA, who
gave me a whopping 579, receiving in turn a 589.
After that, I listened to some SSB QSOs, a
noveltyfor me. Do these chaps often refer to
themselves as "we?" Do they have a mouse in their
pockets? Why are all their conversations so boring,
while every CW QSO is so fascinating? Another of
life's mysteries, I suppose.
Kixie's tucked away, now, as am I, and tomorrow's
another day.
'Night.
