For big loops, the best all band solution is to use parallel feeder to a 4:1
balun like the external Van Gorden, then to coax input to your tuner and on
to your rig. You do need a tuner for all band use.
The external 4:1 baluns are more efficient than those built into most
external tuners.
You can benefit by tune up with a tuner tuner kit sold by Ten Tec T kits.
$17 and simple construction of an evening. You null a pulse tone and the
tuner is thus adjusted to match the rig at 50 ohms.
We have used large loops for field day and usually feed them in a corner, to
try to maintain a symmetric omni pattern.
L. B. Cebik, W4RNL, has lots of info on loops on his web site, www.cebik.com
