Another very interesting antenna can be made from a nicely constructed and
nicely packaged collapsable 10 m fiberglass pole designed by DK9SQ. It
telescopes into a package that is about 4 ft long, and comes in a nice tube
with covers. To operate on any band between 40 and 10 meters, simply tie a
small diameter wire to the top, run it down the pole and connect it to you
K2, then add as many radials as you feel like. All you need to add is some
means to hold it vertical.
I can attest to this antenna. I operated from 3A/W0YR M/S during CQ WW in
Nov of 99. We put this antenna up along with 3 radials and it worked wonders
on both 40 and 15m. It didn't hurt that we were on the top of a 18 story
hotel and had "rare" call sign. For the weekend, we simply taped the wire
from the tip down to bottom, lashed on a SO-239, added the radials and away
we went. We used a tripod with cement bricks on the base to secure the
fiberglass pole. Here at home I use the DK9 along with their loop antenna
and support it with a bucket of concrete with 4 feet of pvc inserted in the
bottom tube. Light twine is needed to guy the antenna to keep the wind from
tipping over the bucket.
