[Elecraft] AM Mode

FM is very difficult to add to the K2 because there is no convenient point
to FM modulate the transmitted signal and get a consistent modulation index.
It would also require a separate FM detector, and again there is no
convenient place to locate this in the K2 architecture.
In principle, it is possible to add AM to the K2 with some difficulty.
First, it would require modifying the KSB2 to support AM transmission
(possibly using a VSB scheme such as used for TV transmissions where we
transmit the carrier plus a single sideband). This would certainly require
a re-designed KSB2 or a separate KAM2 to replace the KSB2 to support AM
only. For AM reception, the K2 can be used today by zero beating the AM
carrier in SSB mode. A K2 AM modification is a lot of work and there are
probably very few K2 users that would take advantage of it.

I would also like to have an AM Mode available! Would that be as much as a
hassle as adding FM capability?
