I, like Mike, didn't like the KBT1 for two reasons. First, the batteries are a pain
to remove and replace. Next, I am partially deaf, especially at frequencies
above 3-4 Khz! (Too many hours around jet aircraft and too much pistol
shooting under range sheds!) The smaller loudspeaker didn't have enough
"OOOMPF!" The option rather ruins the otherwise 'neat' internals of
the K1! Wasn't my cup of tea! This is about the ONLY negative I found
with my K1 except for no dial illumination at night. (This is easy to
remedy though!)
External batteries OK for me!

| I firmly prefer external batteries. I completely removed my KBT1 option and
| returned to the better looking and sounding original top cover and speaker
| assembly. I don't like the idea of possible chemical leakage that is
| possible from the KBT1, since nothing is there to isolate any such leakage
| to the KBT1 battery assembly.
