Hi Rich and Pierre,

>An SWR near 1:1 means that the load impedance seen form the xcvr is =
close to the nominal 50 ohms.
..............
>You still get a 50 ohm impedance and a SWR of 1:1 with that very poor =
antenna. An SWR reading
>of 1:1 often leads to false conclusions.

Certainly a lot circuits make more heat than signal, and feeding a =
capacitor doesn't
do much of anything, but -

Something doesn't seem right here. If I put a 50 ohm impedance onto an =
SWR meter, but that
load is not pure resistance, the current and voltage won't be in phase. =
Shouldn't the
SWR meter spot that?

If I understand the reflected power meter in the Elecraft (K2) antenna =
tuners right, they
take an RF voltage and an RF current sample (converted to voltage), and =
subtract them, then
convert to a DC voltage to calculate reflected power. If the current =
isn't at exactly
the right magnitude and phase you should be able to see that?
