[Elecraft] KX1 Antenna Issues

Hi Rich..

An SWR near 1:1 means that the load impedance seen form the xcvr is =
close to the nominal 50 ohms.
But it doesn't means that the load is made of a purely radiating =
element. Lets say for instance that the load consists of=20
a resistive part of 30 ohms and a capacitive reactance of 20 ohms (the =
case of an improperly tuned vertical... or a wire near the ground).
You still get a 50 ohm impedance and a SWR of 1:1 with that very poor =
antenna. An SWR reading of 1:1 often leads to false
conclusions. A field strength meter would better answer your question.

(KX1 #442 working wonderfully with an horizontal random wire above =
ground and a single radial)
