[Elecraft] K2 QRO or Not?

John I have a fully loaded K2 with the DSP for my main station.  I also =
have
a Yaesu FT857 for my mobile...but I've compared both on the bench and it
just blows me away how well the K2 performs.  I've also had mine at =
field
day and really wowed the socks off of the other guys.

I normally run 5 watts all the time, unless someone complains that my =
signal
is too hard to copy and then I usually only jack it up to 50 watts.  I =
run
mostly on CW and a little PSK, both at 5 watts.  The rig was a Christmas
present a couple years ago from my wife, who got the hint when I drooled
over my Doctor's K2 (W9NJY).  Now I know why I married her (or did she =
marry
me).

I probably only run more than 5 watts once in 100 qso's so I don't think =
I'd
put high priority on the amp, more so I would on the SSB option and the =
160
option..yep you'd be surprised even on 160 how well you can do with a =
decent
antenna.  Put your money into antennas to work with the K2 and you'll =
never
regret the choice.

Heck when I go up to the cottage I have an un-measured inverted V made =
of a
piece of RG8 and some speaker wire.  I've used both the K2 with the =
Kat100
and the KX1 up there with excellent results.

I currently have a basic K2 (no options).  This is my one and only rig.
I've been considering purchasing the 100W and SSB option to have the =
power
when needed as we slide down hill in the current sunspot cycle.  There =

options here, such as purchasing a used 100W rig for the cost of the
upgrades or proceed with the K2 upgrades?  Was wondering how many would
recommend the SSB and 100W option for the K2?  It would also be =
interesting
to see how many people use their K2 as their primary rig.
