[Elecraft] Reflector name change?

I thought for a day or two before adding my 2 cents worth. I make these
points:

1. The proponents of the name change / stop certain topics to my mind =
are
acting undemocratically. Who is anybody to try to stifle another's
contribution to the list other than the list moderators who have so far =
not
chosen to step in on this issue?

2. The majority of hams lack deep expertise in electronic design and =
trouble
shooting. Here is a forum where we can learn from the experienced and =
the
wise. And thank God we have some amazing resources available to us on =
these
lists.

3. I have no compunction about offering some advice based upon my own
experience, if I think it relevant to the question asked, because I have =
the
attitude that I will soon be corrected if one of the sages disagrees =
with
me. It is by being prepared to voice an opinion or a hypothesis and =
taking
the disagreements non-personally that we all stand to LEARN.

4. In this light, flaming, putting down or trying to stifle discussion =
is
not only undemocratic but it is totally opposed to the principle of free
exchange of ideas, peer review and development of scientific knowledge.
There is, to my mind, too much of this even in academic circles today.
Argumentum ad hominem is a sure sign of a weak argument. Witness the =
howls
of rage when Margaret Mead's findings on teenage female sexuality in =
Samoa
were challenged a few years ago. Witness the behaviour of =
administrations
in your country, my country and in Great Britain when opinions not =
favoured
by the respective administrations are voiced. Come on guys, is not =
America
the Land of the Free?

5. The fact that certain topics repeatedly turn up shows a genuine need =
for
information. The idea of using this list as a forum to put together and
clean up "white papers" which will eventually appear on the Elecraft =
website
seems to me to be a most economic and useful way of solving the same
problems over and over. I point to Tom Hammond's article on soldering =
as a
prime example. But there are other very useful contributions from =
others
there.

I think this has been kicked to death (I hope) also but just had to
have my say. I have been licensed as a ham for going on 51 years. I got =
into
ham radio as a young boy of 14 building a regen receiver. I needed help =
to
sort out a problem. That debt I have never considered repaid, and I hope =
I
never do. Talk about BPL killing our hobby, the instant we quit helping =
the
new guys on the block is the day ham radio dies.
And let me not forget to thank all who helped the old guy (ME) with
his K2....
