Now completed RF Board Part II and awaiting
new side panels (fully masked) and a replacement
for RP2 which I damaged. Noted the following items
which should be reviewed for the next manual revision:
1. Page 51, box 5. Regarding RFC installation:
"Orient the first color band to the left." seems a bit
ambiguous since there are color bands on each end.
I did find a picture (Appendix D, FIgure 9) which shows
the tolerance bands (gold or silver) aligned with the
widest stripe on the pc board RFC outline.
Suggest changing to "Orient the RFC tolerance band
(gold or silver) with the widest stripe on the pc board
RFC outline".
2. Page 52, box 1. "As shown by the 'X' in Figure
6-14b, the short trace from pin 16 of U4 to C89 (on
the top side) has been cut at the factory."
Eliminate this sentence since the Rev B RF Board
layout has been changed to eliminate that trace.
Modify Figures 6-14b and 6-14c to reflect the new
board layout.
3. Page 57, box 3. Regarding RFC 3 which has 16
turns of red wire on an FT37-43 , "Wind this inductor
in the same manner as RFC 14." RFC 14 actually
has 10 turns on an FT37-43, but RFC 16 has 16 turns
on the same core.
Suggest changing to "Wind this inductor in the same
manner as RFC 16."
4. Page 57, box 7. "Install C6 (4.7 pF) into the
'outer' two of the three panels." could be ambiguous.
"Outer" could be interpreted as the two panels toward
the nearest board edge (upper right looking from
the bottom side).
Suggest changing to "Install C6 (4.7 pF) into the
far left and far right panels (straddling the middle).
(I hope I guessed right since I never found a photo).
5. Page 58, box 10. Regarding taping bottom cover
in the area beneath L33.
Suggest cross-referencing in Caution at bottom right
of page 59 (just before bottom panel is actually installed).
Also "cove" should read "cover" in the page 59 caution.
If everyone would make notes of any errors or
ambiguous directions in the manual, Elecraft could
continue to refine their manual. I would send this to
Elecraft only but am hoping these comments may help
others now in the process of building their K2. I also
hope Elecraft tracks builder errors (like my putting RP2
into the RP3 slot) so they can either clarify the manual
or add additional cautions where necessary. This is
an excellent opportunity to use TQC to continually
improve their already excellent product.
I also wonder if high resolution photos of all
boards, top and bottom views are available on the
website? Maybe they are there but I couldn't find
them. I looked for W6NEK's excellent photos but
he has removed them from his website. Maybe he
or someone could forward a set for the current K2
generation to Elecraft for posting on their website,
or if they are there already, maybe they should be
made easier to find.

P.S. If I made mistakes interpreting any of the above,
please let me know!
