[Elecraft] remote KAP100/KAT100

I want to remote my KPA100/KAT100 in an EC2. I don't currently have a KIO2. 
I have read that the KIO2 is not essential to remoting, but would like to 
know what advantage is gained by using the KIO2 for communications between 
the K2 and KPA/KAT versus using the AUX I/O.

What are the pros and cons of using or not using the KIO2 to interface a 
remote KPA100/KAT100?
