Brian:
In addition to all of the great technical explanations that have been
posted, I'd like to add a bit of practical experience.
Noise blankers are a way of life for me, as I'm bothered by power line noise
a great deal of the time. Consequently, I have had experience with blankers
by Collins, Drake, Icom, Kenwood, and Ten Tec, and the K2 is equal to, or
better than the best of them. Also, the K2's blanker does not seem to add
any distortion of its own, and best of all, strong nearby signals almost
never affect it. That's certainly not true for anything else I've had.
One more thing. On CW, I can usually crank the bandwidth down far enough to
eliminate line noise completely, and adding the KAF2 in circuit helps as
well. Someday, I'll go for the DSP, but I'm honestly pleased with what I
have.
Good luck,
George - K1GXT
