Dan,
The VFO lock procedure described in the manual (RIT+VFO) is the right one to
use. To make it work, you have to hold both RIT and the VFO knob down together
for about 1 second, then release. The LED should say "LOC" when you do this. The
second method, a longer hold of the RIT button, didn't make it into the present
firmware release. It will be added in a future revision. I can't give you a date
on that.
Let me know if you continue to have difficulty locking the VFO using the RIT+VFO method.
