_X_ Trim the grille cloth so that it is the same size as the speaker frame

___ Place fibre washers (black) on each of the heat sink's four mounting 
speaker mounting holes.  Cut just enough material off each corner of the 
grille cloth so that it fits between the washers, not touching them.

What does the 2nd step mean? 

Currently, I've got a piece of grille cloth that I have trimmed to match 
the speaker frame & it is shaped in a square.  Do I cut a hole in this 
cloth for the fibre washer or lop off the corner of the grille cloth?
