[Elecraft] K1 - 40m strong signal performance

I've been playing with my newly completed K1 and I've noticed that strong
signals on 40m often cause a strange squawking sound on the start of the
first morse character received, almost like chirp. Subsequent characters are
fine, and it really only happens on very strong signals, and only when
nothing has been received for more than a few seconds.

Am I right to assume this is an AGC issue, and that changing C31 to a 1uF
could be the answer?
