It was discussed considerably two or three years ago on the Topband
Reflector.  You'll have to search that reflector's archives, because I
know of no other "written" reference on the subject.  There were enough
naysayers who didn't buy Tom's (W8JI) comparative measurements and others
who used computer modeling using the NEC4 engine (NEC4 can model buried
wires), so the argument still goes on.

You can also ask Tom at [email protected] about it.  His test results
may have been published somewhere.

Keep in mind that 10' above ground is only about 0.02 wavelengths at
160m!  As far as antennas are concerned, that's hardly any different than
being on the ground.  No self-respecting ham would install a ten-meter
dipole at that same height because it would be only 7.5" high!
