[Elecraft] Tools?

Bill,

I have built a K1 and am currently building a K2. Here's the
indispensable "short" list:

1) Good, temperature controlled soldering iron. I use a Weller; but
many Elecrafters seem to love the Hakko ones. There's a good item under
"Builder's Resources" on the Elecraft Website about available soldering
irons.

2) A good lamp, not necessarily a magnifying one, although mine is one.

3) Binocular magnifiers, the kind with the head strap that you can wear
like a welder's mask or like a pair of flip-up sunglasses. These are
definitely indispensable for me! Even with my bifocals, these 47 year
old eyes ain't what they used to be.

4) Solder sucker and solder wick.

5) A very good pair of cutters, small needle nose pliers, and a tweezer.

6) Yes, either a Panavise or some kind of circuit board holder. I
bought a cheapie circuit board holder off of eBay, I think I paid $20
for it. It works fine for me - although I'm sure the Panavise is
probably much nicer.
Also, I believe there was a nice little article on homebrewing a circuit
board holder in the first issue of Homebrewer magazine from AmQRP. If
you don't have that issue, or access to it, I'd be glad to get you a
copy of the article.

Hope all that helped!
