Hi James,
The ordering information for the K60XV and associated upgrades to other
components will be up on the web site this week, but I wanted to give you a
couple of corrections.
- Your KAT100 probably already has the rev 1.05 firmware, which is compatible
with 60 meters. We started shipping that revision last summer, I believe. But
you should carefully read page 15 of the K60XV manual (and the ARRL's 60-meter
FAQ). Using ATUs on this band is iffy until the FCC clarifies their opinion on
the use of carrier emmision solely for tuneup purposes.
- Your KPA100 can be used on 60 meters without upgrading its firmware. But you
do need to install the forthcoming KPA100 mod kit to use it on this band. The
firmware upgrade can then be optionally added; it just rolls back power starting
at an SWR of 2:1 at 100 watts rather than 1.5:1. On 60 meters you probably won't
be using the KPA100 at full power anyway, since the power limit is "the
equivalent of" 50 watts into a dipole. There was a rather lengthy QST article on
60-meter antennas and power levels not too long ago.
It was quite a challenge to upgrade the entire K2 system to accomodate a new
band. We put a substantial amount of engineering time into it. But that's what
everyone asked for ;)
