My two cents worth.....

RST, or RS, at any given moment can be affected by several things;
conditions, type of receiving & transmitting antenna, how directive are the
antennas, power out, and on and on. The only case where RS would provide
useful information would be where a qso with the same person, day after
day, could be trended, or, if switching between antennas i.e.. antenna A/B
tests (best done before a contest), change in power out.

In the case of EQP, if your signal is good enough to exchange name/radio
type/radio serial number, that should be enough let you know that you are
getting out pretty dang good. After all, isn't that the name of the game,
"communications"? If I gave a station an honest report in a contest, in the
next few minutes it could change drastically, rendering the previous report
meaningless.

I for one would like to see RST removed from all contest exchanges. In the
case of EQP, add S/P/C in lieu of RST
