Just returned from trip to Orlando, Florida, and took the KX1. What a
blast. I threw a hunk of wire out the window of the hotel and about 16 foot
of wire about the room and I was in business. I took along a small MFJ
power supply and also had the Lithium batteries installed just in case. I
had 1:1 swr on 20 and 30 meters and about 2.5:1 on 40 meters. BTW the hunk
of wire out the window was about 60 feet although I didn't measure. Anyway,
I had fun. I didn't have a lot of time to operate, naturally, but when I
did I never had any trouble making contacts. One of the neat things about
the KX1 is the DSS tuning. You can go up to the phone bands and listen to
guys call CQ and answer them in CW. It's amazing how many good SSB
operators there are that know the code. I did that a couple of times just
for the heck of it and the SSB guys couldn't believe what I was using. I
carried the KX1 around in a fanny pack like Wayne recommended with all the
accessories including the Elecraft Paddle which by the way is one sweet
device. I had no problems with airport security. No one ever ask to look
at the KX1 which disappointed me, ha. I was eager to show it off. I felt
like a real spy, ha. Anyway, had to share with the group. Neat little
radio. Thanks, Elecraft, again. Best 73, Steve W0SZ.
