[Elecraft] RFI Getting into Power Supply.

I had both power supplies beneath my desk. I ran into that problem with my
old heathkit digital clock, it was within 6 inches of the K2 and created
problems. I don't think the clock drew over 100 ma AC and yet its
transformer was enough to mess up both receive and transmit. The solution
was to move it to 18 inches away.
The Astron 20A works great with the setup.

How close in proximity is the power supply to the radio. It has been
reported many times that if you have an Astron Analog supply you need to
keep it a distance from the radio as the Magnetic Field will cause problems.
I use an Astron RS-20A but have it on the floor below the desk with no
problems.

I had a problem with RFI getting into my power supply. I used a Astron 10A
for my K2 and KAT100 and a Astron 20A for my KPA100. The KPA100 and KAT100
are in the EC2 case. When I was on 80 meters, either QRP (Astron 10A on and
Astron 20A off) or QRO (Astron 10A and Astron 20A both on), I was putting
out a very raspy signal. Anything above 2 watts did it. It even did it with
a dummy load on. Note it was only on 80 meters. I tried another power supply
(cheapie bought at a hamfest), that could only put out 2.5A and it cured the
problem. I have since rewired my power supplies so my Astron 20A runs the
K2, KAT100 and KPA100 and I have not had any problems. One of these days I
will see if improving the filtering on the Astron 10A cures the problem.
A special thanks to Gary at Elecraft who suggested I try another power
supply.
