[Elecraft] RFI Getting into Power Supply.

How close in proximity is the power supply to the radio. It has been
reported many times that if you have an Astron Analog supply you need to
keep it a distance from the radio as the Magnetic Field will cause =
problems.
I use an Astron RS-20A but have it on the floor below the desk with no
problems.

Subject: [Elecraft] RFI Getting into Power Supply.
I had a problem with RFI getting into my power supply. I used a Astron =
10A
for my K2 and KAT100 and a Astron 20A for my KPA100. The KPA100 and =
KAT100
are in the EC2 case. When I was on 80 meters, either QRP (Astron 10A on =
and
Astron 20A off) or QRO (Astron 10A and Astron 20A both on), I was =
putting
out a very raspy signal. Anything above 2 watts did it. It even did it =
with
a dummy load on. Note it was only on 80 meters. I tried another power =
supply
(cheapie bought at a hamfest), that could only put out 2.5A and it cured =
the
problem. I have since rewired my power supplies so my Astron 20A runs =
the
K2, KAT100 and KPA100 and I have not had any problems. One of these =
days I
will see if improving the filtering on the Astron 10A cures the problem.
A special thanks to Gary at Elecraft who suggested I try another power
supply.
