Hello All. I have finished KX1 # 422. Neato little radio. I was the
Homer Simpson of Ham Radio along the way at times while building my
KX1. The purpose of this posting is to share my troubles and fixes with
all who might do as I did.

I will post each item as separate message so builders who are looking
for a specific item can find it by the subject line [as I did when I was
looking for help].

Installing the battery tray was the most challenging part of building
this kit. I had a lot of trouble getting the wires under the tray and
in the correct position per the instructions. While manipulating the
position of the wires...I couldn't make them stay in place without the
tray being secured to the bottom cover. The bottom cover was hard to
secure because the little 2-56 screws are too short, IMHO. Anway... I
ended up stripping some of the screw threads [like the book said]

I obtained some slightly longer screws: 2-56 x 1/4 inch and some
nuts. With the slightly longer screws... this allowed me to secure the
battery trays to the bottom case loosely.... then I was able to position
the wires in place.... then tighten all down.

About three threads of the 1/4" screws protrude from the bottom of the
case.... where I placed the nuts..... secured with some Revlon No 61
screw thread adhesive [clear nail polish]. The screws I used are
aluminum in color... so they contrast with the black case. Not too
unsightly.... but there are black screws out there to match the case.

FYI..... de Rich AE7RW KX1 No 422
