         Yes, see manual, page 5 bottom.  Needs to be desoldered, not clipped.

         Yes, one of several places on the K2 panels where paint is not
masked (but should be).  I used a spark plug wire brush but a Dremel
is faster if you have one.  Remove inside paint only of course.

 >3) The lug: face down toward the RF board, or to the side? I presume I
should just bend it out away from the panel to make the solder connection?

         I don't have mine open at the moment but I recall I moved mine to the
side.  It's not critical but always minimize connecting wire lengths.
Yes, just bend the lug out so you can get access for the connection.
