[Elecraft] Side tone offset RX & TX

In a previous message I described measuring the frequency accuracy of my K2
using a service monitor. I also ran the same test on my Omni VI. This has
raised a question about how TX and RX offset work on various radios.

I assumed that the Omni VI uses a RX offset equal to the side tone the same
way the K2 does. The average frequency error I measured on the Omni VI was
+750 Hz. That is a lot of error, but I also noted that the side tone on the
Omni VI is set to 700 Hz. Perhaps the offsets do not work the way I expect.

I wrote to Ten-Tec service and asked about calibrating the frequency. They
replied that both the RX and TX are offset by the side tone frequency, and
that my Omni VI is just fine.

Now if a radio offsets both the RX and the TX, how can you use the spot
function? Wouldn't you always be off frequency by the side tone frequency?

I am planning on selling the Omni VI if anyone is interested.
