The rubber gasket is there to seal the connector from moisture, and is
cut in half by the shield retaining ring the first time the connector is
installed...If the connector is not going to be subjected to the weather,
the connector can be re-used many times, with or without the rubber ring,
which, incidentally, can be reinstalled...They are not "old style", if
they were they wouldn't be available anymore...I prefer the re-useable
connector because if I have a connector failure at a crucial time and
don't have a replacement, I can cut it off, re-install it, and get back
on the air in a matter of minutes...
The shield on cables made with crimp-on connectors have a propensity to
break at the back end of the shield's crimp sleeve, leading to mysterious
intermittent events...To help alleviate this, it is useful to install a
short length of shrink sleeving over the shield crimp sleeve, extending
out onto the cable...This also helps to water proof the connector because
many times the shield is exposed at the back end of the shield's crimp
sleeve...

replace the rubber gaskets.
Thus, the crimp connector is not different, and is now cheaper to buy.<
