[Elecraft] K2 cw PTT question

I just purchased a completed K2/100 (yes, I realize I missed all the fun of
building it but I am enjoying it with no waiting!!).

I have one question (at least one right now). The mike, I am told, is wired
up for an Icom mike. But when in CW and using the heil pro headset and a
foot pedal for PTT, it sends dots. I would like to have it just key the
radio so I can not listen to the amp relays when I have long enough pauses
between words.

Any advice would be appreciated.
