[Elecraft] KX-1 Cap identification question

Brian, the ONLY thing you need to be careful about is that BOTH caps fit =
the
spaces allotted to them. Otherwise, there's no difference.=20

I suspect that the leads on the blue one STARTED out to be 0.1". AS I
understand it, those caps are actually SMC's with leads attached, then =
they
are dipped in epoxy. Whatever's going on in the manufacturing, the leads
come out of the epoxy with a very wide range of spacings between them - =
all
the way from barely 0.1 to more commonly near 0.2"!=20

They are "spec'd" as 0.1" lead spacing and they MUST have 0.1" lead =
spacing
for automatic insertion machines. That's why they arrive with the leads
shaped by little "loops" bent in the leads right where they exit the =
epoxy.
A machine forms the leads as needed so they are 0.1" apart BELOW the =
loops -
not where they leave the body.

Of course, your caps are off of the tapes used by the automated systems,
they've been handled a lot in packaging and you may have even =
straightened
them a bit as described in the manual. The end result is that they may =
be
anything BUT 0.1" apart.=20

The round "disc" form is a lot more consistent in their spacing. Still, =
it's
common to seem them with "shaped" leads for use with automated insertion
machinery. They are an older style that goes back before the days when
computer-controlled robots assembled boards <G> and, so far, I haven't =
seen
Elecraft use any with the shaped leads.=20

The black dot on the disc ceramic signifies that it is an NPO type cap.=20

Hi guys: I am trying to be extra sure that I haven't confused the 2 =
68pf
caps (C45 & C56), one with 0.2" LS and the other with 0.1" LS.

I have 2 caps that are 68pf. One is a little blue job that looks just =
like
all the .01 mfd (C3,C6,C9 ...) and the .1 mfd caps (C5,C8,C11 ...). I =
think
this one is C56. The other looks like a "pillow type" cap, an orange =
disk
with a black dot on the top. It is bigger than the blue one. I think =
this
is C45. =20

The confusion is that the leads on the pillow type cap are actually =
closer
together than the leads on the blue one, even though they are supposed =
to be
0.2" vs. 0.1"

Can anyone confirm my identification?

Thanks. Brian W3BW
