I have two antennas a 20-10mtr Sigma GT5 on ANT1 and a W9INN 80/40mtr =
Dipole on ANT2.=20
Normally the K2 memory remembers to switch to the proper antenna when I =
switch bands. However, I'd performed some max PO measurements for 40& 80 =
mtrs using a dummy load attached to ANT1 (as it also has an outboard =
SWR/Wattmeter). When I finished and reconnected everything I forgot to =
select ANT 2 for the dipole. At this point I began hearing a 'raspy' CW =
note. Internal sidetone and SSB was fine but listening to a CW sig was =
pretty nasty sounding. I began to freak, thought I'd somehow fried =
something but absolutely no clue what it might be.=20
Then I noticed I was trying to xmit/receive on 40 using ANT1 (the Sigma =
GT5). I'm not sure how/why a bad mismatch would make for *receiving* a =
raspy CW audio tone but as soon as I switched to the proper antenna it =
cured itself.=20
Hope your friends problem is as simple as mine was to cure.
