The bands these days are not necessarily the best place to be 
determining the goodness of a rx.  Although there are the occasional 
periods where there is some activity, there are also long stretches of 
time where the bands are really quite dead.  So don't jump immediately 
to the conclusion that your new rx isn't working just because you can't 
hear anything in the evening on, say, 40 meters.
