Dear Elecrafters - My KX1 has joined the stable with the NC40A, SST-30 =
and K2... and stole the show! SN 360 has been on the air for a couple =
weeks and is without a doubt the most fun rig I have ever laid hands on. =
It went together smoothly except for finding that pesky ground on Q6. =
No amount of sanding, reaming, positioning, or replacing of parts would =
do it so I finally gave up and put a mica+paste insulator in there and =
solved that puppy!
The tuner handles random wires cut to Eric's specs like a champ and the =
SWL is absolutely superb. Also, having buillt the Az sQRPions brass =
paddle and the KXPD1 in the same frenzy of construction I now have the =
best of both worlds. Its like modern art and traditional style on =
display in the same gallery.
After doing my part to support the Elecraft innovation machine though, I =
thought the suggested BNC to random wire adapter at $20 (that did not go =
to the Elecraft cause) could be improvised a little cheaper. The =
solution was simple and fits nicely in a small space. Radio Shack sells =
a solderless BNC for RG-58 coax part number 278-185. Take a hacksaw and =
carefully saw off the ribbed metal rotatable sleeve right at the base =
without cutting the center pin. Then solder one wire to the center and =
one to the cut brass surface of the outer sleeve. These can then be =
attached to random wires in the method of your choice. I like alligator =
clips soldered on the random wires.
Now if only this snow would go away I could go outside and let the rig =
roam free!!
