[Elecraft] PLL ref range question, et al

Hi,
I think this may have been discussed on the reflector before,
but...
I made it to the end of Alignment Phase Part II in building my K2
(#3957), and noticed that the PLL reference range is larger than stated
in the manual. My measured range is 16.11 which is larger than the
updated max range due to the PLL temp compensation mod (~ 15?). Is this
ok, and does it have any ramifications down the line?
The troubleshooting section says that a possibility for an out of
range condition is that X1 may be defective. Could this cause a high
range symptom, as well as a low range condition?
I am able to receive 40m signals, but two other problems (?) I
noticed are:
- Adjustment of L34 not very sensitive (the slug has to be turned deeply
into the transformer before I can hear some noise and weakening of the
signal)
- I hear "birdies" or "skips" as I tune. It sounds like the PLL is not
locking in (?). Are these problems related to the out of range PLL
reference range value that I measured?
Thanks.
