[Elecraft] K2 low xmt audio revisited and REPAIRED!

After building and installing the KSB2 adapter into my K2, I was saddled =
with very weak transmit SSB audio.

Only realized about 0.5 watts peak out (big whistle) with the tune mode =
at 15 watts.

The receive sounded fine, however.

Gary Surrency of Elecraft worked with me for many, many days. Each day =
he'd give me his thoughts and each evening I explore them and report =
back to him in the morning.

If you haven't had the pleasure of working with Gary, let me tell you =
that he is one astute and PATIENT guy. He knows the K2 inside and out.

Anyway, we started with the mike (MH2) and worked our way through the =
balanced modulator, ALC, speech compressor, BFO injection and the SSB =
crystal filter.

I had the K2 packaged up twice, ready to send it to Gary as I was out of =
ideas and PATIENCE!

He kept plugging away every day, try this, Dave....Try that, Dave...This =
should do this, does it?

So I unpacked it again yesterday and did an all-nighter.

About 4:15AM I noticed that the voltages on the filter switching diode, =
D13 were strange. Got out the Hakko 808 (how did I ever live without =
this beautiful piece of hardware?!) and changed D13. No better.

Looked for voltages on D14, but they are not listed in the manual. =
Since the 808 was hot, I changed D14.

VOLA! All was well with the world! Everything works PERFECTLY!

I just wanted to pass this along in case someone MAY have a similar =
problem and to give my heartfelt thanks to Gary Surrency for his help. =
It was above-and-beyond what I've experienced with any other company.

A thanks to Scott, also for rushing out parts to me. He is another =
great part of the Elecraft team.

Wayne and Eric......You have an absolutely top-notch team.

You can be proud of your product because it is without question, the =
best. But you can also be just as proud of you team, as they are the =
cream of the crop.

Thanks to all and 73,
