[Elecraft] yet more data on e42 problem..

i decided to check to see if the battery drain was causing the problem....

i hooked up my vom to the system, and check to see if there was any 
excessive current draw..

on receive, it was pulling about 60 ma..

on transmit.. about 100ma...

while doing all this, i bumped the vfo knob..

what i noticed now was something different..

the readout went nuts! it was moving all over the place.. jumping up and 
down and back and forth.. then settling back to e42..

i twisted it again, and it went back to a frequency readout..

then started jumping around again..

VERY erratic..

so..

i see that part of the manual... in the troubleshooting guide.. .it seems 
like the next thing to do is check the crystals..

can anyone give me any more pointers?
