Absolutely. I'm not a programmer, but I've done some simple
programming, and I understand what goes into it. Any software that we
would want to use requires a huge investment of time for someone to
write. Anyone who makes that investment deserves to be rewarded for it.
Carl's software has long been highly respected for the high
professional level to which it is developed, and it appears that Julian
is taking that same high road. Ditto for the guys who have developed
Ham Radio Deluxe (still freeware) and Write Log. 

These folks deserve any reasonable fee or contribution that they ask
for. If you don't want to pay for software, write it yourself. And plan
to take a serious chunk of time out of your life for a year or two.
