Jeff,

I too agree you should keep/use what you got for the reasons Carl (WA7CS),
Mike (KK5F) and Dave (KK7SS) said. At least for now anyway.

I just believe they would learn more about the fundamentals on the analog
gear than they would by simply turning something on, pushing a button or two
and turning a knob. With the 'dip & peak', dial based gear it's not just
some theory from a book but a basic, solid learning foundation via hands-on
experience.

Maybe once your Scouts master the "Real Ham Radios" those that show the
greatest interest could then build a K2 as an 'advanced' project?

I do hope there is a good ol J-38 straight key buried somewhere in that mix
of donated equipment tho ;)
