Two possible interpretations of this memo. If the twisted wire causes a
good "force fit" connection between the shell and the chassis, this
would effectively ground the shell. But if there is no force fit to the
chassis, it doesn't -- instead, the shell goes to chassis via the pc
board.
How about the designated shield connection (pins 7 and 8 on the mic
connector)? How do these pins get to the chassis? They ought to get
there via a shell which is solidly connected to the chassis, which
would be the shortest possible path. If it's a longer one, the current
will divide between that longer path and the path via the circuit
board.
